We Prayed and Now we Mourn
Mensagem do Diretor Geral do ORT Mundial:
LONDON, 1st July 2014 – We prayed and now we mourn. The hope we shared to Bring Back Our Boys has been extinguished by hate, but we will not allow the memories of Eyal, Gil-ad and Naftali to be obscured by the benighted brutality of their killers and their supporters. The unity with which the People and State of Israel responded to the boys’ abduction inspires us to honour their memory in thought, words and action. Our thoughts are with the Yifrah, Sha’ar and Frenkel families, that they be comforted among all the mourners of Zion and Jerusalem; we shall continue to speak out against the delegitimisation of Israel and the anti-Semitism which feeds it and for the tolerance, compassion and ethics which our Jewish tradition expects of us; and we shall teach our students to take pride in their heritage so that our words will mould a better world through their behaviour. Like the thousands of ORT students and all young people around the world, Eyal, Gilad and Naftali should only have known success, happiness and full and fruitful lives. May our work be a fitting contribution to their blessed memory and a fulfilment of the prophet Micah’s words, “Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy; though I am fallen, I shall arise…”, אַל תִּשְׂמְחִי אֹיַבְתִּי לִי כִּי נָפַלְתִּי קָמְתִּי
